This tea represents a beautiful example of mountain sheng pu-erh from Bingdao – an area today considered one of the most sought-after terroirs among lovers of authentic teas from old trees. More

2024 Raw Pu-erh from Old Trees in Bingdao | Bing Dao Tian Sheng Puer – cake 357 g comes from the legendary tea region of Bingdao 冰岛 in Lincang prefecture, Yunnan province. High in the mountain landscape, where mist rises from the valleys and ancient tea trees grow on steep slopes, teas are produced that are considered among the purest and most refined by lovers of pu-erh.

This tea was made from leaves of old trees of the cultivar Bing Dao Da Ye 冰岛大叶, which have been growing in this region for generations. The trees used for this cake are approximately 200–250 years old and grow at an altitude of around 2100 meters. The slower growth in this mountain environment gives the leaves greater depth, delicacy, and a natural sweetness.

This is a sheng pu-erh (sheng cha 生茶), often called “raw” or “green” pu-erh, produced using traditional methods. After harvesting, the leaves are briefly heated in a wok (sha qing 杀青), rolled, sun-dried, and then compressed into the traditional tea cake bing cha 饼茶. This simple and natural process preserves the authentic character of the leaves while also allowing the tea to slowly mature and evolve over the years.

Teas from Bingdao are known for their purity, elegance, and pronounced natural sweetness. The infusion is usually fresh and bright, with delicate notes of flowers, mountain herbs, and light honey. A characteristic feature is also the long, gently cooling aftertaste that gradually unfolds in the mouth and lingers long after each sip. Thanks to the quality of leaves from old trees, this pu-erh is already beautiful when young, while also offering excellent aging potential. Over time its flavor may become rounder, deeper, and even more complex.

This tea represents a beautiful example of mountain sheng pu-erh from Bingdao – an area today considered one of the most sought-after terroirs among lovers of authentic teas from old trees.
