188 ZUO GUI WAN – Reflection of the Starry Sky

Herbal Formula Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine

This classical herbal formula is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is traditionally associated with supporting the deeper nourishing aspect of the body known as Kidney Yin.

In TCM terminology, similar formulas are used in situations described as a more pronounced deficiency of Kidney Yin, Essence (Jing) and Marrow, which may be associated with sensations of internal dryness, restlessness, depletion or weakness in the lower back and knees.

The formula contains a combination of herbs traditionally used in Chinese medicine, described in classical texts as supporting Kidney and Liver Yin, Essence (Jing) and overall internal balance.

According to European Union legislation, specific health effects cannot be claimed for this type of product.

Characteristics in TCM terminology

In Traditional Chinese Medicine this formula is associated with:

  • supporting Kidney Yin

  • supporting Qi and Essence (Jing) of the Kidneys

  • supporting Marrow

  • supporting internal nourishment and balance

Traditional composition and principle of the formula

This formula is designed primarily as a nourishing combination focused on replenishing Yin and Essence:

  • Shu Di Huang is traditionally associated with strongly nourishing Kidney Yin

  • Shan Zhu Yu and Gou Qi Zi support Liver Blood nourishment

  • Shan Yao supports Spleen Qi and fluid production

  • Tu Si Zi is associated with supporting the Kidneys and stabilizing Essence

  • Huai Niu Xi supports circulation and directs the action of the formula downward

Unlike some related formulas, this composition does not include strongly clearing herbs and is therefore traditionally focused on replenishment.

In modern formulations, certain ingredients may be adjusted to comply with EU regulations.

Traditional use

In TCM terminology, this formula is used in patterns described as pronounced Kidney Yin deficiency.

These patterns may be associated with sensations of:

  • internal dryness and thirst

  • restlessness or reduced recovery

  • weakness in the lower back and knees

  • reduced vitality

These concepts belong to the theoretical framework of TCM and do not represent modern medical diagnoses.
