This beautiful green tea comes from one of the most northerly tea growing regions in the world, Nagomari village in Guria province of Georgia. The subtropical climate of Western Georgia is perfectly suited to growing high quality teas. Gentle slopes of Etseri Estate are distinguished by cold winters and cool nights. While low temperatures might limit the size of harvests, they also help control pests and allow the tea to be grown naturally, without the need for harmful pesticides. Changes in temperature between day and night also makes for tender, aromatic buds, which grow more slowly than teas in warmer regions, creating a specific delicious flavour. More

The tea trees were planted at the end of 20th Century. There are several Chinese tea cultivars which were imported in Soviet Union by Chinese foreman Lau Dzhen Dzhau. The village of Nagomari was one of the leading tea producing villages during the Soviet Era and at that time, the majority of villagers were employed in the tea sector. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, tea production factories across Georgia were closed, tea plantations abandoned and thousands of jobs lost. In 2015 18 villagers came together and established a tea producing cooperative and so far, they have completely rehabilitated 25 hectares of tea plantation, built a small factory and started tea processing.. In Nagomari, a large area is covered by old tea plants.
