Huang Cao Ba is an pretty isolated village in Jinggu County of Puer region. You can find it about 100 km away from the county town of Jinggu. It takes 60 km of a narrow bumpy and muggy road via a dense forestry to get to this small village with cca 700 residents. There is a quite large area of old tea trees in Huang Cao Ba at the altitude of 1800 m. The old tea trees in Huang Cao Ba are special in a way that they are considered medium small leaf, unlike the big leaf cultivars at 95 % of places in Yunnan and a few places with small leaf cultivars. The tea of Huang Cao Ba was a tribute tea to the emperors in Qing Dynasty. Hence its name by local farmers who call the tea Mao Er Duo Gong Cha (Cat Ear Tribute Tea). The Pu-erh tea of Huang Cao Ba is famous for its sweet aftertaste and often it is referenced as the tea with sweetest aftertaste of Yunnan. Here the demand was always higher than the supply so the tea from Huang Cao Bao have never been too affordable.
