The exquisite black tea from Matai in Yunnan (Lincang County) has been harvested and processed exclusively by hand using leaves from wild-growing tea trees of the Camellia Assamica species typical of the area. These are large-leaved Da Ye Zhong tea plants, which are normally processed into Pu Er tea. The leaves come from trees that are approximately 200 years old, the garden itself grows up to a height of 1400 m. The trees grow wild without the use of any chemicals, and they are able to obtain a large amount of nutrients with the help of an extensive root system that connects the entire garden into one living organism. A Bud and three leaves are typically processed. At first glance, we can recognize the Yunnan large-leaved tea tree with its attractive, large, dark brown colored leaves. An experienced tongue recognizes honey, cocoa, dried fruit, cinnamon and molasses, the sweet taste in the mouth lasts for several hours.
