072 LIU JUN ZI WAN – Six Gentlemen Formula

Herbal formula based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles

This traditional herbal formula is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is associated with supporting balance in conditions described as Spleen Qi deficiency with the presence of Phlegm (脾气虚兼痰 pí qì xū jiān tán).

In TCM, the Spleen is the center of digestion and energy production. When its function weakens, fluids begin to accumulate and gradually transform into Phlegm 痰 (tán) – a pathological factor that burdens the body and obstructs the natural movement of Qi.

The formula contains a combination of herbs traditionally associated with strengthening the Spleen, transforming Phlegm, harmonizing the Stomach, and restoring the proper flow of Qi.

According to EU legislation, specific health claims cannot be made for this product.

TCM Characteristics

Within Traditional Chinese Medicine, the formula is associated with:

  • tonifying Spleen Qi (补脾气 bǔ pí qì)

  • transforming Phlegm (化痰 huà tán)

  • harmonizing the Stomach (和胃 hé wèi)

  • regulating Qi movement (理气 lǐ qì)

  • stopping nausea (止呕 zhǐ ǒu)

Traditional Formula Principle

The formula combines herbs with tonifying, drying, and harmonizing actions:

  • Dang Shen 党参, Bai Zhu 白术, Fu Ling 茯苓, Zhi Gan Cao 炙甘草 – form the core of the classical formula Si Jun Zi Tang 四君子汤 and support digestion, Spleen function, and Qi production

  • Ban Xia 半夏, Chen Pi 陈皮 – derived from Er Chen Tang 二陈汤, traditionally associated with transforming Phlegm, drying Dampness, and harmonizing the Stomach

  • Fu Ling 茯苓 – additionally supports fluid metabolism and connects both functional layers of the formula

  • Zhi Gan Cao 炙甘草 – harmonizes the action of the entire formula and supports the middle burner

In TCM, this combination follows the principle: strengthen the root while eliminating accumulated Phlegm.

Traditional Use

In TCM terminology, the formula is used in patterns described as Spleen Qi deficiency with Phlegm accumulation.

These patterns may traditionally be associated with symptoms such as:

  • loss of appetite

  • nausea or vomiting

  • sensation of fullness or pressure in the abdomen

  • epigastric distension

  • productive cough with abundant white phlegm

  • fatigue, especially after eating

These descriptions are based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and do not represent modern medical diagnoses.
