Simply speaking, Oolong teas are partially oxidised teas, in which the level of oxidation as a rule is within the range of 10% up to 80%. In Chinese tea terminology these teas are called Qing Cha, which translates as “blue-green teas”. The best known Oolongs originate from the Wu Yi mountain range in the province of Fujian (e.g. Lao Cong Shui Xian) and from the Feng Huang mountain range in the province of Guangdong (e.g. Feng Huang Dan Cong). Another well known location of Oolong production is the island of Taiwan, which is typified by teas from high mountain regions with a low level of oxidisation (e.g. Gao Shan Wu Long). Cultivation of tea on a larger scale commenced here in the mid 19th century. Oolong tea has a large amount of beneficial medicinal effects, such as support for digestion, cooling the organism, regulating blood pressure, anti-oxidation effects, reduction of excess weight and a range of others.
